Giving God Our ”Yes”: Tim & Nancy’s Story
We are Tim and Nancy Moore. We are young senior citizens who are new to FAC but not to The Alliance Canada. We were married in 1981 and honeymooned our way to Regina, where we served at Canadian Bible College and began nursing training. We grew up in a church that supported foreign missions and have participated in several short-term mission trips. They may have been short-term trips, but they were certainly life-changing! We are now on home assignment for a year and are excited about this opportunity to be on the FAC team.
As a young married couple, we stepped out in faith and declared, “Yes Lord, we will serve You…wherever, however,” and this has guided how we have lived our lives. Tim has been faithfully teaching and encouraging young men and women in ministry, training, and vocation. Nancy, in her field of nursing, used any opportunity to shine His light to patients and colleagues.
It was also our heart’s desire to live overseas. In no particular country, mind you — but to teach, testify, and encourage whoever He brought into our path.
That came to pass in January 2020, and we were off to Phuket with The Alliance Global Ministries to direct an Envision site. This site hosted short-term mission trips, as well as taught a deep dive three-month discipleship program called Justice Semester. Tim pastored All Nations Church Phuket, a church planted by Alliance International workers. We also served alongside “For Freedom International,” a team of Christians who are involved in the prevention, intervention, and restoration of the sexually exploited.
Our heart and passion for ministry has been fuelled by seeing lives changed, one person at a time, through the absolute grace, mercy, and forgiveness offered to humankind by a sovereign God and Saviour. The entirety of Scripture is God’s story of redeeming people to Himself. He is sweetly drawing all people to a decision to receive His salvation—that is “a mission.”
God welcomes all skills, schooling, abilities, and training into His service of cross-cultural ministry. He uses welders, computer techs, lawyers, pastors, carpenters, nurses, bakers, agricultural techs, and small business operators, to name just a few. Everyone and anyone is welcome and valued in cross-cultural ministry.
All of us, you and I, are invited into the story of salvation. God asks us to be His spokespersons!
For Christs love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
2 Corinthians 5:14
We are very excited for the FAC International Street Fest on November 8/9. This is an opportunity for the FAC Family to experience global music, try local ethnic foods, hear about cross-cultural ministry, chat personally with International Workers, and listen to their stories.
The “Hard and Dark Places” is the focus of this street festival. What are the “hard places”? The hard places may be places of poverty, war, and persecution of Christians. These places may be physically challenging and oppressive. Of the 17,523 people groups in the world, 42% lack resources and enough followers of Christ to reach their own people with the gospel.
And yet, Jesus must be made known. John 1:4-5 teaches us, “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” What would it look like if every follower of Jesus committed to being a light in these dark places?
May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among the nations… May the nations be glad and sing for joy… May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear Him.”
Psalm 67: 1-2, 4a, 7
International workers have been called to serve in these hard places, and you are invited to be their partners in ministry. They serve with all the skills they own, gifts the Holy Spirit has empowered them with, and the prayer support of partners “back home.” The dark places where IWs serve and operate are where there are often spiritually oppressive cultures and overtly antagonistic to the truth of Jesus Christ.
Perhaps during the FAC International weekend, you may find yourself captured by a sense of “call” to serve in unique international opportunities. We’re here to help you explore how you can be part of joining Jesus in bringing His hope to some of the hardest and darkest places in the world.
How does Luke 4:18-19 speak to you?
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.
Thank you, Tim & Nancy, for sharing your story!
