The Story Behind Every Voice

2 Chronicles 5:13-14 describes an incredible moment of worship in the Old Testament, when the temple was dedicated:

“The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the Lord with these words: “He is good! His faithful love endures forever!’ At that moment, a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord. The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud, for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God.”

Close your eyes and imagine being in that moment. Can you hear it? This thunderous roar of praise from every voice raised in volume and unity. The beautiful sound of a congregation coming together, with their hearts overflowing into song. And God moving in a powerful way.

It’s been almost 2 weeks since we gathered as an entire church community for our FAC AS ONE service. Out on the field where I was standing, I could hear everyone singing, but in talking with several of you afterwards, I realized that it was actually much louder in the stadium itself and even throughout the grounds. The predominant feedback I’ve heard is that it felt like a foretaste of heaven. A thunderous roar of praise from every voice… The beautiful sound of FAC coming together… and God moving in a powerful way.

As the Music Pastor here at FAC, there’s nothing more thrilling than experiencing that kind of worship together. Our purpose in FAC Music is to create music that inspires worship. Every week it’s our hope that every person in the room will participate in worship together. The music teams can’t worship for you. We want to worship with you. And the more people participate, the more it encourages others to participate. Participation and non-participation are both contagious! I know sometimes it’s easy to join in – maybe you’ve had an especially encouraging week. I also know sometimes it’s really hard – the pain feels more real than His presence.

That’s where the strength of an “all-in” worshipping community really shines. When the challenges of life threaten to silence one person’s voice, another voice rises up in faith alongside them, and behind them, and in front of them – powerful reminders of God’s goodness from real people around them who are also facing their own challenges and struggles. The song of the redeemed. The anthem of the Church. The sound of every voice.

This is the heart behind the release of our very first FAC Music live worship album: Every Voice. We intentionally recorded this album at our very first Fill the Room night of worship, because I knew hearing our church singing together would inspire our church to sing together even more. This album is not just for your personal listening enjoyment (though I think you will REALLY enjoy it!). This is not just for your personal worship in between weekend gatherings (though I think it will inspire that). This Every Voice album is really meant to be a catalyst for us in our journey of becoming that kind of “all-in” worshipping community – a vibrant witness to each other and to the world that we are passionately in love with Jesus!

Before I wrap this up, I do want to brag on the FAC Music family a bit, and not just the ones who played on the album. We have an amazing team of talented musicians across FAC campuses. This album reflects the incredible work all of them do every week to serve our church so well – to create environments that inspire every voice to engage. Many of them are also gifted songwriters who contributed to the 7 original songs on the album. I also want to acknowledge the kindness of a fellow Canadian recording artist, Dan Bremnes, who co-wrote “Still the Healer” with us, and acclaimed “I Speak Jesus” songwriter, Dustin Smith, who co-wrote “Respond” with us.

Finally, I want to recognize the astounding work of our in-house producer, Odum Abekah. He did the heavy lifting of making the album not just sound good, but sound great, and ultimately getting this project across the finish line in a form that is professionally polished, musically engaging and emotionally moving to listen to. I’m not much of a sports enthusiast, but in the music world, releasing a full album is the equivalent of running a marathon or winning a championship. I am so proud of everyone! GO TEAM!!!!!

We have been working on this project for 2 years. It’s hard to believe that it will finally be out in the world. And now we want people to hear it – to hear you!! We want to be good stewards of these songs and the hard work that went into producing this. Listen to Every Voice, and if you find it inspires worship in your heart, please share it! If you stream it online, please like, save, download, and add it to a playlist on your streaming platform of choice. This really make a difference in helping more people discover the album.

The next time you’re in church, be brave! Take the plunge, sing out, and help fill the room with praise as part of FAC! First and foremost, simply because God is worthy. But also remember that someone around you needs to hear your voice.

“Let every voice that’s in this room lift up Your praise, it’s breaking through the noise – lift up your voice!”

(from the song, “Respond”, by FAC Music)
