What Could All Helping Look Like for You?

Written by Fernando Pedro, Southwest Campus Music Pastor
Here at FAC, one of our core values is All Helping. We believe Jesus brings renewal to the broken places of our world through His people, meeting suffering, injustice, fear and other forms of brokenness as we lean in and help one another. When we help, we become part of what Jesus is doing.
Choosing to help out at church or to serve in the community through FAC is such a powerful way of joining Jesus in the renewal of all things. Jesus showed us what kind of King He is through serving others, and it’s through our serving that He continues to bring renewal in our world today (Matthew 20:26–28). When we help others as a church community, we’re imitating our King and doing things the way He wants us to do them. In other words, helping is one of the ways we become more like Jesus.
And while serving is something we are all called to, it can look very different from person to person. We asked a couple of people from the Southwest Campus what helping looks like for them and why they love serving.
For Leo, All Helping looks like serving in the Tech Booth as part of the Weekend Production team at FAC Southwest:
“Serving on the Tech Team has brought me so much joy and a true sense of belonging,” Leo says. “Being part of the team that helps create meaningful moments of joy and connection for our church community is truly priceless. I also really appreciate how everyone works together with set-up and clean-up!”

For Soo, All Helping looks like sitting at a piano and serving with the Southwest Campus music team:
“Music has always been a very important part of my life and one of the things I love most. Playing the piano has also been a meaningful way for me to worship God and serve Him. What I enjoy most about being part of the music team is working together with the band and vocalists to create music and lead worship,” Soo shares. “Through serving together, I feel like we are growing not only musically, but also spiritually. I especially appreciate the moments when music helps us connect and be honest with one another, and those moments make being part of this team very special to me.”
So, what could helping out as part of FAC look like for you? Pastor Fernando encourages us to not be afraid and just start somewhere: “You can start slowly in a ministry area and see how things go. If you don’t really enjoy it, that’s okay; at least you tried! But if you find a greater sense of purpose and a deeper joy in helping in a specific way, it can change your life! Serving isn’t mandatory. It’s a privilege. Try it!”
